Local volunteers are supporting a befriending project which aims to identify and address the issue of social isolation in Woodberry Down.

We have started this pilot project with Genesis Housing Association, where local volunteers are getting involved to help their own community.

The training morning was delivered by Genesis Connect Team and MHDT Volunteer Coordinator. The session covered the “do’s and don’ts” of working with vulnerable people, discussions about tackling isolation and role playing scenarios.

Neil Pressley, one of our befrienders said:

“It was an eye opener as it showed us the needs of our local area. It also gives us an opportunity to get involved and integrate isolated people into community activities”.

Befrienders are now ready to visit residents identified by Genesis Tenant Support Team.

The impact of this initiative will be measured over the next three months, with a view to making this opportunity available to other residents.
