Residents at Woodberry Down showed off their moves on Sunday 17 July when the Big Dance Bus 2012 arrived at the estate.

Around 500 people attended the event which was hosted by Manor House Development Trust, Genesis Housing, and London Borough of Hackney.

The event started with a carnival procession – including a Chinese dragon, a giant bird and butterfly costumes – which left The Redmond Community Centre and paraded along the New River path to the middle of the estate. The procession was met by professional dancers who had set up the main dance area with a branded Routemaster bus and dancefloor in the communal gardens behind Chattenden House.

Hundreds of local residents danced the afternoon away. It was the first time the Big Dance had brought such an event to an estate – they usually take place in high-profile Central London locations like Trafalgar Square. Big Dance representatives commented how fantastic it was.

Residents of all ages and cultures met and interacted with each other and everyone seemed to have a great time. Many commented that it was one of the best events that had ever been held at Woodberry Down.
