Half the Battle is a project managed by Manor House Development Trust and funded by the Hackney Community Covenant. This is a 1 year pilot project that aims to help to integrate ex-service people from East London boroughs into local life and encourage the armed forces community to help and support the wider community by developing routes into sustainable employment via a range of community services and activities.
It’s early days for the project which started in October 2014. So far we have established relationships with SSAFA, the Royal British Legion and Veteran’s Aid. Deirdre Flanagan, has supported seven ex-servicemen with careers advice.
“As a professional careers adviser, with fifteen years working in adult, community and further education with adults, I encourage lifelong learning. Originally from Manchester I have lived in London for nearly thirty years. I’m passionate about being part of a community for health, well-being and active aging. I love gardening and complementary therapies. I hope to support ex-military personnel to progress, change or enter new careers enhancing their lives back in civilian community life”.
