MHDT staff celebrate International Women’s Day every year at the Redmond Community Centre on the 8th March.
The event has become an annual fixture in our calendar as a way for local women to come together to build supportive friendships, to celebrate all the good things about being a woman and to explore issues that affect them.
The 2010 Woodberry Down event offered the 59 women who attended activities such as make-up and hairstyling, nail treatments, henna hand painting and massage therapy as well as a belly dance performance.
In 2012, around 70 women came along for a range of activities including stalls, table tennis matches, board games, henna, massage treatments and competitions with prizes. There were stalls for local women to display and sell artwork and textiles they had made. We provided information about training and volunteering opportunities and a talk on domestic abuse. The women who came along were able to indulge their creative side by making head-dresses and cushion covers.
