Samatha Meditation is an ancient core Buddhist practice based on mindfulness of the breath. It develops tranquillity and concentration as a basis for understanding and wisdom. It is particularly suitable for those looking to develop meditation practice whilst continuing with the challenges of everyday life.
Tuesdays 6:30pm – 8pm
What to expect: At the beginning of the class the teacher will talk you through the meditation techniques from the tradition we practice. We will then meditate together for a short time to begin with, but building up the time gradually and depending on your experience. The meditation will be followed by a gentle talk/discussion on meditation practice after which people can share tea and biscuits if they wish. During this time there will be an opportunity for anyone who wishes to report (i.e. chat privately) to the teacher on their individual meditation practice and to ask specific questions about their practice.
Absolutely everyone is welcome whether you’ve come along before or not – especially beginners – you may find it helpful to bring a cushion or something comfortable to sit on, although chairs are available for those who prefer.
No commitment to Buddhism is necessary, we welcome people of all religions or no religion.
