A Big Fun Day was recently held at Sir Thomas Abney primary school on Saturday 27th June 2015. The event saw support from locals in the area as well as a number of different stalls and activities to keep everyone busy and interested. Over all the Fun Day was pretty much a success.
Manor House Development Trust was at the Fun Day giving support by interacting with the locals from the area by giving out information on events and getting some of the local residents to sign up to up and coming activities and events that are taking place in their local area.
The Manor House PACT stall was standing out at the event. The big PACT banner that stood beside the stall attracted lots of attention towards the organisation which meant MHDT spoke to many parents and adults, we also got a number of them to sign up to receive an Energy Home Visit, a few of the adults also received a plant as a kind gesture.
To help draw in a younger crowd towards our stall one of our very own volunteers, Joel, lead a bushcraft activity for children teaching them how to use the wilderness to build shelter and to create a fire in a safe way with supervision from MHDT. This was very exciting for the children who participated as they were very intrigued by the materials that can be used for survival skills.
I found the activity very helpful. If I was to get lost in the forest and it was cold and dark, I wouldn’t panic because Joel showed me what I need to do to protect myself and keep warm.
The survival skills activity was a big success amongst the group of children that took part and resulted in most of their parents signing them up for the Bushcraft sessions that are happening this summer.
