Our volunteer Safiya is on her way to getting a Duke of Edinburgh Award!
Safiya has spent three months volunteering with MHDT, helping organise and run a variety of community projects.
I love having the experience to learn new things and I just love new environments and adapting to them. Everybody is nice and friendly here, I really like the department!
During her time here Safiya took the initiative to implement a technology project for over 50s, where she helped older community members use computers and improve their digital skills. She also helped run International Women’s Day, which was a great success! In three months, Safiya has developed technical skills in graphic design and websites, data analysis, event management, and more.
I’ve gained networking skills because you have to talk to a lot of new people here. When I probably come back I can still talk to you and keep a connection in the future.
Her contribution to the centre has been highly valued and her volunteering efforts will help her on her way to achieving the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award. We look forward to welcoming you back here in the future Safiya!
