PACT Meals is focused on providing free community meals, which are donated by local shops. The main aim of this project is to reduce food waste by recycling fruits and vegetables that were not bought by anyone. It is useful not only for our environment and health, but your family budget can be saved as well. Millions and millions tonnes of food is wasted worldwide and we ignore the consequences it has on our planet. More than half of this meal could be easily consumed!
Two students from Slovakia who are currently working with MHDT recently volunteered with PACT Meals at Newnton House Residential Care Home and this what they had to say about their experience.
It was our first volunteering experience we have ever had and we have to say that we were really enthusiastic. Helping others is the best feeling in the world. Time flies by really quickly when you’re in the company of the nice people. Although, some of the fruits and vegetables used were not in the best condition, everyone was satisfied and some of them even asked for recipes. People were very thankful to all of us and said they were looking forward to another PACT meal.
The next PACT Meals event will be on Friday 10th July 2015 at Edible Landscapes London from 10.30am to 2pm.
Volunteer’s tasks include:
– Peeling and cutting vegetables
– Serving food
Please do not hesitate to join us!
Banana pancakes was one of the biggest hits with everyone at the home so we thought it would only be right to share the recipe.
